Summary
ADF represented the Missouri Director of Health and Senior Services in a series of five state and federal lawsuits brought by Planned Parenthood and another abortionist, who challenged the state’s authority to force abortion centers to operate by the same health and safety rules as other outpatient surgical clinics. After victories in federal and state courts that turned aside Planned Parenthood’s constitutional challenges, the lawsuits were settled after the abortion providers agreed to comply with the law and related regulations. Since this victory, three of Missouri’s four abortion centers have closed.
