KS governor vetoes protections for female athletes

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Christiana Holcomb regarding Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto Friday of SB 160, a bill that protects opportunities for women and girls in athletics by ensuring they are not forced to compete against males playing on women’s sports teams:

“By vetoing this bill, Gov. Kelly has chosen—for the second time—to reject fairness in sports for thousands of women and girls in Kansas. When biological differences are ignored, women and girls bear the brunt of the harm. The incidents of males dominating girls’ athletic competitions when competing as females is increasing nationwide, as they seize championships and shatter long-standing female track records. While we are disappointed by the veto, we commend the Kansas Legislature for taking a stand for female athletes, and we strongly encourage them to override this veto and join the growing coalition of states that have enshrined protections for women’s sports into law.”
