Billy Atwell
Billy Atwell serves as senior vice president of communications with Alliance Defending Freedom. In that role, he leads a team of communications professionals who manage media relations, digital media, publishing, marketing, news writing and editing, multimedia productions, internal communications, and strategic messaging.
Before joining ADF in April 2024, Atwell served various Catholic dioceses in developing communications departments, leading teams, and assisting the diocesan bishop in elevating his voice and furthering his communications goals and objectives. During that time, he served on the board of the Catholic Media Association and the Catholic Academy of Communications Professionals. Prior to serving Catholic dioceses, Atwell worked as a communications project manager for BreakPoint and the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, and as a public policy advisor on criminal justice issues for Justice Fellowship.
Born in Brooklyn, New York but spending most of his childhood and early adulthood in North Carolina, Atwell earned a B.A. in philosophy and B.S. in political science from East Carolina University where he graduated magna cum laude. He lives with his wife, Katie, and four children in Virginia.
